apparam pakkalam by U.S.A student

this is about a small incident which happened during my office hours today, thursday feb 9 2005. A student from my class requested to meet me regarding some questions in the logic design class. As usual I agreed to help students due to my passion to teach. After her questions she asked me where am I from. I told her india, she asked me where in india, i told chennai. She said, Oh chennai, so appparam pakkalaam. that came in as real surprise to me, I have seen lot of U.S.A ppl here want to know some words in hindi, but someone knowing something in tamil was a rare scene. this knows how much popular india has become in the recent years and everyone wanting to know something or the other about indian culture, languages etc. with this incident i should say everyone want to know more about india as they are seeing india in everyday news and indians very common in everyday life. great kudos to unity in diversity in india and to the great indian people who made this possible. the fact that i have ties with the country gives me a great pride.
