MatchFixers Madhan's email

Just posting an email from our matchfixer's email list, written by madhan govardhan. This summarises all our performances during our winning tournament in fall 20o5.

OK , to begin with wowww what a performance by matchfixers ..... to summarize it in one line, we played like the Australian team .....the bowling was solid, everytime the opponents hit a boundary we came right back taking a wicket in the same over or the very next over ..... fielding was excellent, we punished the team every single time they tried to convert a single to a double or when we mis-fielded, took almost all the catches that came our way ...... the batting was steady, everytime we were in trouble, we were able to put up one steady partnership that was good enough to win the game

Game 1 vs Gladiators (9 a.m. 10/01/05)
won the toss and elected to bat on a very damp wicket .... every batsman who got in scored a few runs and got out .... even be4 we cld realise we were like 40 something for 6 wickets .... then Maali and Chalupa steadied the ship and we scored 80+ runs finally .... when we bowled intitially the fielding was sloppy with a few dropped catches but then we won the game by dismissing them for 30 some runs

Maali and Chalupa put up a matured batting effort beyond their actual maturity :-)

Game 2 vs Verizon Blues (5 p.m. 10/01/05 start was delayed because of rain 14 overs game)
won the toss and once again elected to bat against probably the weakest bowling attack .... once again we managed to lose early wickets and were 6/2 in the first over ..... then Bhaski and Sunil smothered their bowling with Bhaski scoring 55* and we scored 112 and we dismissed them for less than 30 for sure (sorry cldn't remember as I left the field to cheer the Glads and Mandai came in and did nothing on the field)

Bhaski and Sunil put up a batting display

Game 3 vs Yodha (9 p.m. 10/01/05 14 overs game)
lost the toss and was asked to bat .... we expected this to be an easy walk, but we were in for a shock as their bowling was so tight and disciplined that the first wide was in the seventh over .... Babar started off with a six and a four but once again we managed to lose quick wickets and were in trouble with the score less than 20 and 5 wickets down .... Bison and Chalupa stepped up and we scrambled for 55 runs in the end ..... this game was when the real veri came for our boys ..... we bowled with great intensity backed by good fielding which helped us dismiss them for less than 30

Bison and Chalupa played a crucial innings making sure we played out the overs

Super Six
We qualified for the Super Sixes topping Group A which had Titans and Rebels in it.
The other Group had Hyderabad Tigers, UCF Eagles and Rebels

Game 4 vs Titans (9 a.m. 10/02/05)
won the toss and elected to bat .... Titans had just 8 players on the field .... once again we managed to lose early wickets and this time we were in real trouble losing 6-7 wickets for 25+ runs .... this was when Ravi and Maali stepped up and played sensibly to play out all the available overs gathering runs in the process .... I think we managed to score 60+ in the end ..... once again the veri factor came into the equation since this was also against Titans ..... bowling was superb and we got wickets in regular intervals as this turned out to be no match for us and we dismissed them cheaply

Ravi's, crucial and sensible innings with Maali especially considering the fact that this was the first game Ravi was asked to bat and man he did perform when the situation demanded

Game 5 vs Rebels (2 p.m. 10/02/05)
was forfeited by Rebels since they qualified for the semis and yes we needed this time badly
We once again topped the group and qualified for the semis to face Yodha.
The other 2 teams that qualified were UCF eagles and Rebels

Semi-Final vs Yodha (7 p.m.10/02/05)
lost the toss and was asked to bowl for the first time ....no surprise in bowling as we were once again discplined and tight and they managed just 45 runs .... and once again no surprise in batting we lost 2 or 3 quick wickets before we scored 20 runs ....Bhaski and Babar stayed for a while and that was good enough to get the runs by the 10th over

Bowlers really made the batsmen job real easy .... highlight of the game was when Maali pulled off an amazing one handed catch in the mid-wicket boundary but ran out of the boundary line which triggered an argument between us and the umpires when they declared that as a six only to find out from Maali after the game that he knew he went out of the boundary .

-- Posting this information with a disinterest, But I believe umpires should take the right decision as this stuff happens even in international cricket and will continue to happen till full use of technology comes to force. But was finally happy to see the decision go in favour of the batsman.

Finals vs Rebels (10 p.m. 10/02/05)
won the toss and elected to bat .... yes we did lose early wickets once again, suddenly to our horror we were 12 for 3 ..... this time it was me and Bison who steadied the innings .... we ran like hell and they tried desperately to get a wicket trying mankhad atleast 3 times and ended up looking like fools, appealed for a leg bye run out ..... Bison hit a couple of timely boundaries which was good enough to get us 66 runs .... we hit the field with veri at its peak (ippo nenachaalum veri kelambudhu) .... Soji bhai gave us jitters when the first over went for 11 runs but Bala came up with a maiden wicket over and Soji made up for the first over by taking 2 wickets in his second ....Bhaski and Chalupa continued the work picking wickets at regular intervals and we made their batting look silly and they were clueless as we dismissed them for 35+ runs ... we went berserk at the fall of the last wicket and celebrated like we won the world cup and the whole crowd appreciated our all round display ....

Bison and me held the innings (we were particularly determined to make it up for the last finals loss, as it was the same partnership that triggered the infamous collapse) .... the highlight of the game was when me and Bala ran for 4 runs when the keeper initially had the ball after Bala missed the shot and the ball was being repeatedly thrown between the keeper and the bowler

In the presentation ceremony the founders of Match-Fixers(Ravi, Babar, Mandhai and Shiva) were asked to give a speech which was followed by the distribution of the trophies
We had great support through out the match with our Gladiator boys cheering us and the whole ground was reverberating with whistles and cheers all through the game ...they made every single look like a boundary, totally demoralizing the fielding team ....

Most improved player of the tournament was Maali, his performance was impeccable in this tournament. Chaluppa would easily be one of the best rookie bowlers Match Fixers ever had. A special note of appreciation for the 4 bowlers Soji, Balaji, Bhaski and Chalupa for their consistent bowling.

I have played for many teams and in many tournaments but by far this was the best team I have ever played and this victory is the pinnacle of team victory ..... also this is the sweetest victory I've had so far, because of the way we lost the last finals and for the fact that I had a chance to redeem myself ..... I still remember the words from Ravi's email "my heart is aching and I am not sure if the pain will ever go away" ..... it really did pain for me and I am sure it would have for all of us ..... hope everyone’s heart is pain free now and hoping I wldn't have any more sleepless nights with haunting memories of the lost finals.... go MATCHFIXERSSSSS

Kallu FYI, there was not a single boundary scored on the off-side, as a matter of fact probably 5-6 doubles wld have been scored on the off, thats it ....we made sure we packed the off side

The reason that I wrote this long email (probably the longest I ever wrote) is because I am pretty sure somewhere down the line we can look back and recollect the memories. I would like to continue but I am starting to feel some pain in my fingers which were the only part in my body that was pain free, so before it gets any worse I'll stop

MatchFixers - SIA USF Cricket

Finally, ive become part of a winning team in the Students of India Association, Univesity of South Florida Cricket Tournament. The level of competition is very high here, almost 10 - 15 teams participate every year. Two pakistani teams, one srilankan team and rest indian teams mainly 2 tamil, 2 hindi, 1 telegu, 2 verizon teams and rest are all mixed up indian teams.

The winning experience was so sweet, this time our team completely dominated all the matches. We were really on it after losing the last tournament in the finals. That was a closely fought contest and everyone in the team was really upset after the loss. So we were really determined to get the cup this time. Everyone in the team were fired up for every match in batting bowling and fielding, believe me playing seven 16 over a side matches in 2 days is not a joke. Our bowling was the best part in this tournament, conceding an average of just 2.5 runs per over. Batsman supported the bowlers well in all the matches.

Sitting guyz starting from left: Soji Francis, Pradeep Fernando, Mahalingam Venkataraman, Kishore Sathiyanarayana, Anand Manohar, Balaji Varma, Standing guyz starting from left: Madhan Govardhan, Siva, Ravikumar Gnanaraj, Gokul Muthuswamy, Baskar Mohan and Anand Babu Another important thing about this win is that four guyz in our team who are studying and studied at USF were from SVCE. What are rare combination. Presenting you that photo next.

The new guy in the photo is sriram, of gladiators. He is a strong supporter of matchfixers and has always been there for us and is a svce guy too. Proud to be a svceian, matchfixer and usfian.

gajini_vs_memento

Ive been wanting to write blogs for a long time. Finally starting it now. This one is about tamil cinema, so I am easily getting a motivation to write something about it. I saw gajini today, asusual in a poor wmv format, downloading it from forums in 15 small parts. These forum administrators are getting cheap day by day. Really liked the movie, Murugadoss and surya have done a good job. Asin, wow, she looks cute, manivannan avvai shanmugi movie'la solra madiri, munnadiyum nalla irukudu, pinnadiyum nalla irukkudu. She also has a good smile, so everything abt her is good, her acting performance has also improved a lot. I hope, she has good chance of becoming next simran.

Now coming to the core of the blog, I heard from cinesouth.com that gajini is a remodelled version of memento. I am not against remakes, as they are good in their own ways. Why not watch a good movie in your own language. In the same way with songs in between the story.
So after hearing the plot of gajini from cinesouth, I wanted to see memento. As per the review the movie memento was too good, It really gave me headache, while watching the movie. The director has split it into two parts, one moving backwards in time frame and other moving forward. The movie gets clearer as you keep going and ending in a place where you can guess whats going to happen after that point. It was such a novel attempt and I really appreciated the effort and watched it again, ofcourse not back to back.

Right after the movie, I knew gajini cant be taken in the same fashion, man it will defnitely blow in the box office if the same pattern was followed. Why cant they do it the same way, are tamil audience so illetrate. Well lets have this debate later. So, I expected a lot of changes in the tamil version of the movie.

After watching gajini, I felt even though not the same level as of memento, It was well scripted and a nice movie to watch. The sequences were good and surya and asin are looking too good. But cant even be compared to one half of memento. Gajini will defnitely become a hit, but my only concern is when are tamil audiences going to get used to novel kind of plots. When are tamil movies going to be directed in the same level and quality as english ones. we have to wait as even maniratnam's yuva flopped.
